These are the first reusable hygienic masks up to 100 washes with the antiviral treatment of the Swiss patent HEIQ based on silver ions. Silver particles are powerful antimicrobial and antiviral agents due to their high surface to volume ratio and unique chemical and physical properties. The silver nanoparticles with which the yarn matrix is made are an effective innovation against viruses, eliminating them after a short exposure to silver. Silver interacts with the lipid membrane encapsulates bacteria and viruses by forming electron donor groups that lead to inhibition in the stages of infection by blocking viral proteins.

The active principle of silver is molecularly introduced into the wire matrix by means of an innovative treatment certified by HEIQ (HEIQ AG-20) with the EPA registration number 85249-1. The antiviral treatment has been tested by HEIQ against coronavirus and has shown 99.99% efficacy in inactivating the virus once it contacts the tissue surface with the HEIQ AG-20 treatment. Both the HEIQ treatment on the matrix and the filtration and breathability qualities required by the UNE0065: 2020 standard are effective even after 100 washing at 60ºC.
