The louse is a small wingless insect that lives exclusively in the hair and feeds on blood.

It moves through it thanks to its 3 pairs of feet that allow it to adhere to hair. An adult louse is 3-4 mm long and lives for about 30 days. A female louse can lay between 200 and 300 eggs (nits) during that lifetime. They incubate after 7 days and become adults in 10 days.
